McDonald's India Joins ONDC, Launches Street Food Pilot
McDonald’s India North and East has announced its partnership with the government-backed Open Network for Digital Commerce (ONDC), making its products available across ONDC buyers’ applications with exclusive ala carte and meal options. Rajeev Ranjan, managing director of McDonald’s India – North and East, highlighted that this collaboration aims to enhance accessibility for both existing and new customers.
This move positions McDonald’s as the second major fast-food service player to join the ONDC platform, following in the footsteps of Jubilant FoodWorks Ltd (JFL), the operator of Domino’s Pizza. The ONDC, operational since early last year, has facilitated over 7.1 million cumulative orders in February, catering to markets including Delhi, Bengaluru, Kolkata, and Chennai.
In an innovative initiative, the ONDC is piloting a project to integrate street food vendors, commencing with Delhi and Lucknow. The pilot project intends to engage with 500 street food vendors in these cities over the next few months, leveraging buyer applications to drive demand for these small-scale operators. In Delhi, the pilot initiative has commenced with Magicpin, a platform backed by Zomato.
This collaboration signifies McDonald’s commitment to leveraging digital commerce platforms to expand its reach and cater to evolving consumer preferences while also contributing to the integration of local street food vendors into the digital ecosystem.
